Rio Tinto’s bauxite production rises in H1 2019 y-o-y
2019/08/27
According to statistics, Rio Tinto, a leading global mining group in Australia, totally produced around 1600 kilotons of primary aluminum in the first half of this year, which kept flat compared to the same period a year ago.

The production of bauxite in the first half of 2019 amounted to approximately 26,200 kilotons, up by 1% year on year. Although the Amrun bauxite project was worked slowly in the first quarter due to weather issues, the progress was accelerated recently, with an increase in bauxite production to partially offset the reduction in the nonmanaged Porto Trombetas (MRN) JV in Brazil. Besides, the CBG bauxite expansion project in Guinea has been operating at a target speed.

In addition, Rio Tinto’s alumina production had a year-on-year decrease of 3% during the period, of which the output in the second quarter slid by 6% year on year due to big maintenance at Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) and an output reduction in Vaudreuil impacted by decreased bauxite supply from MRN.
