Analyst: Chinese alumina imports to decline in future
An aluminum analyst of Huatai Futures said at 2019 China Aluminum Summit that Chinese alumina imports were expected to keep dropping in the near future since the domestic production continued expanding, reducing the alumina dependence toward the foreign sources.

According to the analyst, Chinese alumina industry has grown rapidly in recent years. The production has accounted for 55% of the global output, compared to 10% in 2003.

Chinese alumina imports totaled around 2.9 million tons in 2017, accounting for only 4% of the total supply in China. In 2018, the proportion was down to 1% only, showing a significant drop in import volume.
