China's net imports of primary aluminum surged in July, reaching 207,300 tons, a year-on-year jump of 86.8%. This rebound occurred despite the typical off-season, with long-term contracts driving the majority of the import volume.
Total primary aluminum imports were approximately 248,300 tons in July, up by 91.2% from the same month in the previous year. Meanwhile, exports also had a significant jump, more than doubling to 41,000 tons.
The cumulative net imports for January to July were about 1.37 million tons, a year-on-year growth of 5.3%.
The influx of overseas supply into China's spot market reflects weaker international demand, with some domestic sectors beginning to show signs of recovery.
