The EU member states expressed their concerns at a two-day summit in Brussels on the shortage of magnesium, a key raw material for the aluminum alloy production, which might impact the European automobile, aircraft, and electronic industries because China, the largest magnesium supplier in the world, reduces its production due to power curtailment.

Both German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis warned of this challenge of magnesium shortage at the summit.

Relevant enterprises said that if the EU does not take urgent action, the EU’s inventory of magnesium may be used up by the end of November, which will threaten many European industries and employment.
