Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro said on August 1 that it will invest NOK 500 million in its extrusion plant in Cressona, Pennsylvania to raise the recycling capability at this facility.

The plant’s annual casting capacity will be increased by more than 50,000 tons from the current 240,000 tons per year. The project was expected to be put into full production in late 2024.

Paul Warton, Executive Vice President for Hydro Extrusions, said that this investment will significantly increase the use of pre- and post-consumer aluminum scrap, support the plant to drop its average carbon footprint by 5% from the extrusion process, as well as strengthen the company’s ability to produce innovative alloys.
