WBMS: Primary aluminum short of 1.025 million tons in Jan-Aug 2021

According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the shortage of primary aluminum totaled 1.025 million tons in the first eight months of this year, and there was an oversupply of 1.367 million tons in 2020.

In the January-August period, the demand for primary aluminum was 46.2 million tons, up by 3.863 million tons compared to the same period in 2020.

During the period, global primary aluminum production had a year-on-year increase of 5%. China's production accounted for 58% of the current global output, totaling 26.076 million tons.

In August alone, the primary aluminum production was around 5.61 million tons, and the demand was roughly 5.666 million tons.
